Contract
Lawyer Allows Attorneys To Be In Two Places At One Time
October 25, 2002 - Jacksonville, FL - Across the
country, law firms are turning to temporary, contract attorneys
to enhance productivity, control costs and access immediate expertise
during sudden or unexpected workload increases. Capitalizing on
this trend, Lisa Paquette Varon has opened a contract law office
in Jacksonville to help local attorneys manage more work without
the expense of hiring additional full time staff.
Varon worked for 11 years as a criminal defense
attorney with the Jacksonville Public Defender's office before becoming
an independent contractor. She focuses on criminal and family law,
and her services include research and writing, depositions, motions,
court hearings, trial work and appeals.
Varon says the need for contracted labor in the
legal profession has never been greater - particularly for solo
and small firms. "It's not always feasible for law firms to
add permanent staff to handle a temporary workload increase, so
they either turn away the work or overload themselves," she
states. "I make it possible for them to effectively be in two
places at one time."
Jacksonville is home to over 2300 attorneys, who
often take cases outside of Duval County. As a contract lawyer,
Varon assists her clients by making court appearances on their behalf
throughout Northeast Florida, including Duval, Clay, Nassau, St.
Johns and Columbia counties.
Varon cites job satisfaction and flexible scheduling
as positives of temporary contract work.
"I like that I'm helping my peers serve their clients better,"
she states. "Plus, I set my own schedule and work when it's
best for me. Sometimes that's after the kids are asleep."
